Prague
Beautiful train ride from Stuttgart to Prague, if not a bit basic and archaic.
I stayed at a lovely hostel 17 miles out of town on the river. I was looked after by old ladies.
1st August
Explored the streets of Prague; very beautiful and full of lovely old buildings. Went to see an impressive exhibition by a famous Art Nuevo artist called Alfonse Mucha. Wonderful statues all around. There was a great one of a splattered Superman in Wenceslas Square.
2nd August
Interesting Day!
Went to the Museum of Communism; a history of Soviet Occupation and the Velvet Revolution in 1989. Some interesting anti-American cartoons of the time. It all happened in Wenceslas Square - Riot Police, Tanks etc.
In the Afternoon I went out to Kutna Hora. Visited the Church of St Barbara, and the old mint, and my favourite - the Bone Church. Spooky and very eerie - decorated with Human Bones!
Arrived back at Wenceslas Square and, bizzarly, a demo was starting. People lighting candles, placards etc... I found out that only last week there was a techno party ... rave... there were 5000 kids and 1000 police with tanks and water canons turned up. 100 plus injured and one death .. the Czechs were protesting against the police brutality and were comparing it to 1989! I learnt much about Europe and history today.
